Examining Goji Juice Research

When you are looking for Goji Juice, looking at the product's research is good. Because there are many brands and blends, goji juice research can vary dramatically. Therefore, you must consider the research for that particular brand.

We will examine a number of leading brands of goji juice, including Goji 100 by Genesis Today Inc, Goji Juice by Healing Noni Co, LLC, Goji Max by Tahiti Trader and GoChi Juice by Freelife International, Inc.

Goji 100 by Genesis Today
Goji 100 by Genesis Today

Goji 100 by Genesis Today, Inc

We have researched Goji 100 Juice and have been unable to find any scientific studies, clinical trials or anything similar. It appears that Genesis Today's goji juice hasn't been researched.

On deeper study, we discovered Dr. Lindsey Duncan, a leading nutritionist. He runs a number of Home Nutrition Clinics in California, writes nutritional articles for leading magazines as well as lecturing across the US. Dr. Duncan founded Genesis Today because he believes goji juice is beneficial to your health, among other nutrients and lifestyle environment conditions.

After doing a fair bit of research on Goji 100 by Genesis Today, we've found a good, experienced company with a variant line of nutritional supplements. However, we cannot confirm that Goji 100 is beneficial to your health; there is no goji juice research to prove this.

Goji Juice by Healing Noni Co, LLC

Healing Noni acknowledges that the goji berry, specifically Lycium barbarum, is beneficial to your health. In fact, they link to a number of articles on PubMed.gov explaining the benefits of the goji berry.

This may seem like goji juice research, but it is not. While goji berries have wonderful health benefits, these nutrients may or may not be found in goji juice. This all depends on the brand, manufacturing methods, growing conditions of the goji and much more.

To know if a particular brand is really beneficial, we must find goji juice research on that brand.

Tahita Trader Goji Max
Tahita Trader Goji Max

Goji Max by Tahita Trader

Tahita Trader's Goji Juice is certified organic, which is very good for your overall health and well-being. Goji Max has an excellent ORAC rating, but we could find no scientific studies as to the actual effect on your health. We did find a list of benefits on affiliate sites that included: anti aging, help with energy and stamina, weight control and inflammation control.

These health benefits are certainly true of the goji berry itself, specifically Lycium barbarum, but there is no documentation that Goji Max provides these health benefits.

Freelife International GoChi Juice
Freelife International GoChi Juice

GoChi Juice by Freelife International

Researching GoChi Juice was a little confusing as Freelife has two different goji juices: Himalayan Goji Juice and GoChi Juice. For Himalayan Goji Juice, we found no scientific research or clinical studies. It seems this was the first goji product by Freelife. It cannot be confirmed if Himalayan Goji Juice provides the same health benefits as goji berries (Lycium barbarum).

GoChi Juice, which is made mostly from Himalayan Goji Juice, has had three studies conducted on it. According to these scientific studies, GoChi Juice provides a number of health benefits including less fatigue, sharper mental acuity, reduction of stress, increased energy and improved bowel regularity.

Read the summary of the 3 GoChi Juice research here.

Very good informative hub. I've found the Freelife Gochi to be the best of all of them.

It's interesting that despite saying repeatedly that there is no evidence that goji berries are good for your health, you then say "goji berries have wonderful health benefits."

Since there isn't any evidence, surely that's only an opinion which is indistinguishable from marketing hype? The fact that there is no evidence means that the claims are unjustified, surely?

It's all very well marketers pointing to unrelated research on polysaccharide metabolism, and it probably confuses non-biochemists, but unless they have controlled, double-blind trials showing evidenced effect, they don't have a case.

I trained as a biochemist a long time ago and it is depressing to me how often the complete absence of evidence has no effect on marketing claims, especially in the area of nutrition.

@BobLloyd Perhaps I wasn't clear, but I didn't mean to say there is no research on goji berries. I believe there is research validating the health benefits of goji berries. However, goji BERRY research doesn't prove anything about goji juice--you need to research the goji juice to know if it's beneficial or not.

Many marketers show goji berry research as proof that goji juice is good for you, but this is not logical and that's what I was trying to point out. Goji berries & Goji juice are two different foods and should researched as such.

You're right about a lot of companies just marketing a lot of hype without research. Thus, I did a research overview of 4 of the biggest sellers of goji juice.

And yes, if there is no research & yet people claim something is beneficial for your health, that's just an opinion.

I mentioned two articles about goji juice research (Lycium barbarum) from PubMed.gov in my hub and here are a few more research articles:

Goji Berry Research

3 studies on GoChi Juice (Lycium barbarum juice)

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19185773?itool=

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18447631?ordina

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19857084?ordina

You can just type in goji berries or lycium barbarum to read the research on PubMed.gov to find additional articles.

In regards to the complete absence of evidence in regard to marketing claims, you're right. Regardless of the evidence and research, many companies say & do what they like--whether it's true or not! And it's just not fair or beneficial to the consumer.

Thank you for your feedback! It was very insightful; few people understand that only a double-blind, placebo controlled study is validated research as you do.

Good response to the biochemist. Marketing is amazingly costly to the consumer. We did Freelife for a year. It was too expensive! So now we drink our own juices from the fruit grown on our property.

@Lolahi I'm impressed that you make your own juices! Do you make goji juice or other kinds? We don't make juice from our fruit, but we do grow cherries & peaches. They are so much tastier & healthier fresh from the garden!

We have oranges, tangerines, guava, lychee, lemons and limes. Right now that's about all we can handle, lol! Lemon water first thing in the morning does wonders. I encourage people to do the Freelife juices if they can afford it. The person that started us out has MS and it literally helps her get moving in the morning. I am a USPS rural carrier so I deliver a lot of Goji, so it is popular.

Frankly, if you faithfully adhere to a juice regiment, the benefits are rewarding. It provides necessary vitamins and balances minerals in your blood. For old folks like me it helps maintain muscle. I started this postal career at fifty-eight. My postmaster drinks Freelife Goji because she works for the airlines at night, and it gives her energy.

Continue doing your blogs, there are too many people dependent on doctors and pharmaceuticals to "keep them healthy." Go figure!

Hi Gojijuice,

I was reading some of the other comments. I was under the impression that there is evidence that Goji berries are a source of antiodiants. Am I wrong on this point?

GojiJuiceGoodness Hub Author 2 years ago

adrienne2--You are quite correct: there is evidence that shows goji berries are a source of antioxidants. This evidence is based on fresh goji berries, not dried ones though.

Dried goji berries may not have the same levels of antioxidants that fresh ones have. If the package of goji berries doesn't say, you can contact the company & ask for the antioxidant levels.

I tried eating Goji berries once, but they were so bitter. Which juice is your fave?

lilfaerie--I tried some organic goji berries once, but I found them bitter as well. I understand they are delicious when fresh, but I've never seen fresh goji berries for sale. :)

My favorite goji juice is GoChi Juice by Freelife: http://www.gojijuicegoodness.net/gochi
