Used Conference Tables

Keeping to my Budget

I was hired by a CEO of a major corporation to set up all the furnishings in his high rise office building.  He gave me a budget and I was determined to stick to it.  One thing that helped me do so is buying used conference tables.  The look and feel of a conference room, although not used as often as individual offices and cubicles, is still crucial.  After all, this is where a company meets with its biggest clients and corporate officers.

Conference tables can be so expensive, though.  Had I purchased new ones, I’d have had very little room in my budget for anything else.  So I looked around and found used conference tables were often in just as nice of condition, just as classy and practical as new ones.

Buckling Down to Research Conference Tables

Now, I know what you’re thinking: how could I take the most important rooms in a new office building and furnish them with used conference tables? Seems ridiculous, I know! But that is where being selective comes into play. I didn’t just arbitrarily go out there and buy the first used conference tables I could find. Actually, I kind of lucked out.

You see, I was looking through some online listings and encountered a company that was going out of business (sadly, a common happenstance these days). Well, let’s face it: they had no use for the office furniture and needed to count their losses and move forward. So, unlike a retailer or the average used furniture salesman, they were selling used conference tables on the ultra cheap.

My next thought was: ok, so this company online has used conference tables for sale; that’s good. But what if they aren’t what I need? What if they’re not the right size, shape or color I need? And unfortunately, the seller was too far away for me to go see these used conference tables in person. Ah, the joy of pictures! I’m so thankful for the fact that I was able to see multiple pictures online.

So I simply asked for measurements and they provided them! As luck would have it, these used conference tables were all not only in good repair, but they all matched each other. Plus, as it turned out, they were cherry wood in color, which is the same color of our conference rooms! Bonus!

Getting my Boss on Board--The Final Step

My boss is a big CEO, so he was quite skeptical when I informed him that I was preparing to order used conference tables. After I showed him the pictures, he said he trusted my judgment. He also told me if the used ones for some reason didn’t work out, I’d be responsible for setting up a new online listing and re-selling them! Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. To be on the safe side, instead of getting the entire set of used conference tables at once, I just ordered one. When it arrived, we placed it in a conference room on the first floor and voila! A total “that’s it!” moment!

Yup, I did order the rest of them... :)
